Phenomena
Adam Ekberg & Sarah Szwajkos
June 19 - August 9, 2025
FEATURED ARTIST
In calculated performances that intersect with photography’s documentary potential, I explore ephemeral occurrences.
Light. Time. Color. Form. Composition. These are my interests, my tools, my language.
ABOUT THE SHOW
Beauty is a primeval phenomenon, which itself never makes its appearance, but the reflection of which is visible in a thousand different utterances of the creative mind...
- Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Curated by Bruce Brown, Phenomena explores the beauty of the ephemeral and ineffable through very different approaches. Sarah Szwajkos focuses on photographically capturing light, time, and form, resulting in radiant compositions of color. Adam Ekberg, on the other hand, physically constructs "minor spectacles," turning humble, everyday objects into "celebratory iconography." His scenes only live for a brief time, but their existence endures through the photograph. In both cases, the photographs speak to experience beyond the everyday; perhaps impermanent, yet no less real. Although divergent in description, the resonance of what is captured through each artist's work is unmistakable.
