PENTIMENTI: Little Histories
Penelope Jones and Nancy Wagner
September 25 - November 22, 2025
FEATURED ARTISTS
As I reflect on these past few years, I am pleased to see the sense of joy and hope that permeates my work. It gives me faith to keep moving forward, one foot in front of the other, trusting the universe and what I do.
My paintings and collages work with architectural structure, surface texture, and color interaction, in a desire to make each piece a metaphorical location to explore and inhabit. My process is both a building up and an excavation of sorts.
ABOUT THE SHOW
Pentimenti: a visible trace of earlier painting beneath a layer or layers of paint on a canvas.
Penelope Jones and Nancy Wagner share a lifelong love of textiles and patterning as well as an appreciation for the mystery and beauty that surrounds us. Both employ a layering process in their work, Wagner’s mixed media works involve stitching, paint and collage, while Jones’ multi-layered oil paintings and collages are made from fragments of her own previously abandoned paintings. Looking closely at the work reveals clues as to how it was made: its history.
