ARTIST STATEMENT
In another life I might have been a spy. In this life, I have spent my time and energy listening, both as a psychotherapist and as an artist; trying to understand what moves people, what motivates them, what thwarts them. As a therapist, I create a space in which to explore and delve into feelings, with the goal of helping people incorporate disparate perceptions.
My interests and gaze on the world changes; my attempt to get close and deep doesn’t.
There is always a search going on; sometimes I locate it and sometimes I don’t.
In my studio, I exercise the same listening and the same culling for feelings: my own. Some may be hidden, maybe unknown, hard to understand or maybe right on the surface. All with the goal of expressing them visually.
