Anastasia Warren

Anastasia Warren is an interdisciplinary artist. Using ceramics, electronic media, performance, and writing, they are developing methods for existing across body paradox. Warren is influenced by the roots of the African Diaspora and its dislocation. Their practice inhabits The Afrovoid: a fictive ecology and conceptual framework which considers the contradictory immortality of Black life. Under conditions of boon and threat to Black life, The Afrovoid is a proposal of sovereignty and the freedom in abstraction. Warren’s ceramic works utilize clay’s uncanny, material properties to explore the self determination of Black radical tradition. Referencing documents of imagination, care, terror, and abolition, their works in clay are earthbound portals.
