Avy Claire

I am showing works from two series.   “The World is a Messy Place” and “Twisted Brushstrokes”.  They are both born out of my hand and process.

I spend a lot of time thinking about the brushstroke — how it creates the painting. There have been times when I want to pare a painting down to its essence, to a singular brushstroke, and so I cut it out.

And then there is the mess it can make especially when I am letting my hand react and explore the marks. I allow what comes naturally to my hand with the brush or blade. Pushing and pulling the paint to give it space and atmosphere until it pleases me.  The title however, focuses on my thoughts about the messy place that is our world. I find myself standing in the liminal between insanity and sanity, chaos and order, good and bad design.   I have an internal need to fashion some sort of order/beauty where there is none. And, I can only hope that it can hold someone’s attention long enough to be shared.
