About the Show

A selection of William Zingaro’s gorgeous, minimal, abstract expressionist sculpture in various materials is currently on display. This work has been placed in conversation with both our Marlene Ekola Gerberick exhibition and a very large botanical painting by Jung Hur. The steel and aluminum sculptures included are from Zingaro’s current series of imaginary, aerial view urban landscapes and urban objects, which was inspired by New York City. Zingaro describes his process in creating these objects as follows: “[I make} a wood formed base which I then cover either in steel or aluminum. The metal is heated and pounded to form the shapes. Soft aluminum sheet is attached to some of the forms with rivets and steel with nails. The outer coating of rust is a controlled chemical process that is chemically neutralized. The images are original in most situations with some historical reference to contemporary US sculptors.” Also featured in this exhibition are plaster sculptures embodying the artist’s meditations on archaic, symbolic geometric shapes (spheres and cones), and two tall, dark, and handsome vertically aspirant wooden constructions from the artist’s “Lofted” series.
