About the Show
Curated by Bruce Brown, this exhibition is the inaugural public display of David E. Shaw’s nature photography. The show focuses on the celebration of Earth Day and includes images of beautiful and increasingly threatened creatures and the ecosystems that they inhabit.
This exhibition unites two of Shaw’s passions: art and nature. David is generously donating artist proceeds from the exhibition to the Shaw Innovation Fellows program at the University of Southern Maine, which includes work on sustainability and the conservation of nature.
A prominent American business and social entrepreneur, Maine-based David Shaw’s career has included extensive public service in science, arts, and the conservation of nature. Shaw is also a widely recognized explorer of the planet’s remarkable seascapes and landscapes. These experiences are often documented via an expansive library of films and photography, which form the basis of this show.
