On Wednesday, October 22, at 6 pm, join Penelope Jones and Nancy Wagner for an artist talk about their current exhibition, Pentimenti: Little Histories.
Pentimenti: a visible trace of earlier painting beneath a layer or layers of paint on a canvas.
Penelope Jones and Nancy Wagner share a lifelong love of textiles and patterning as well as an appreciation for the mystery and beauty that surrounds us. Both employ a layering process in their work, Wagner’s mixed media works involve stitching, paint and collage, while Jones’ multi-layered oil paintings and collages are made from fragments of her own previously abandoned paintings. Looking closely at the work reveals clues as to how it was made: its history.
